Kitin Events Part I : Kizarak and Kitin Patrols

Since Winchgate has aquired Ryzom, it seems that events have happened more frequently than ever since I first started playing. And by events, I mean the devs or the CSRs taking control of NPCs and creatures, to make them act in a way that wouldn’t be seen during normal, regular gameplay. I will try to trace and summarize the events that have occured on Atys since it rose from its ashes to live again.

It started with a letter from the brand new event team : Animation4. They announced a very ambitious project, which was to bring roleplay back to Atys, in order to make the four civilisations grow in importance, in order to make Atys feel even more alive and immersive. Roleplay would then be as much of a part of the environment as the yubos peeing on your shoes or the ever changing weather cycle. And then, the devs got busy, and brought us our first invasion event since ages.

It started slowly, with roleplay events that consisted in raiding Kitin nest to recover some important amber cubes (which are a form of magical data storage) on a lost Mektoub packer. The kitins obviously didn’t appreciate. Afterwards, a gigantic Kizarak (see picture below) was encountered near Demon’s Lap, in the Prime Roots. The beast was slain, which caused an uproar amongst the Kitin population and brought back the dreaded Kirosta patrols down there. (As if Prime Roots weren’t scary enough already.)

But it was far from over. After the Fyros General, Decalion Krylus, decided to kill that gigantic beast and lead the attack to put it down, after the Kirostas had started patrolling the depths of Prime Roots once more, it was the Leaders of the four people that called upon homins to help eradicate the crawling threath.

We went deep down in Prime Roots to clear all the Kirosta Patrols (also called KPs) we could encounter. Each civilisation got assigned to a specific region of the underground layer of Atys. We got wiped a few time by those highly aggressive Kitins, but we were getting better and more organized after each failure. Once we finally cleared the place, we heard that another Giant Kizarak named Klaarch was found at Midway Point, in the middle of the Wastelands. We were to gather there and unite our strenghts with the other homins of Atys.
Getting there was hard, the gigantic beast was surrounded by tons of blood-thirsty Kirostas. But after a couple tries, we managed to get to it.

When we returned to our Emperor, we were proud of killing such a huge monster, but afraid that the repercussions might be bigger than what we anticipated. We had stirred the Kitins’ anger and were expecting them to strike back at us… and we were right.
